Rhynchostylis gigantea is a fairly large growing species from Burma, Thailand, Malaya, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Borneo, and Indonesia.
A well grown plant can have many fragrant flower racemes typically flowering in Winter.
Plants available are seedlings from a selfed plant, established in a 70mm pot. They are fast growing in warm weather and growth slows to dormancy in Winter, although they are not deciduous.
Ideal conditions are
- medium to high light that is filtered,
- warm to hot locations
- in a well drained mix that dries before it is watered again, or grown bare root in the air (basket)
- Vandas like water and food when in active growth.
They can be grown on a mount.
